Outgoing Belgian ambassador to continue to promote investment in Seychelles

(Seychelles News Agency) - The outgoing ambassador of Belgium said during her farewell call on President Danny Faure at State House on Tuesday that she will continue to promote investments with Seychelles.

Roxane de Bilderling said Seychelles has a strong legal framework for investment where investors can prosper. She will be meeting with the Seychelles Investment Board to further discuss areas of priorities or where more investments are needed.

The outgoing ambassador said, “We do have Belgium nationals who have invested in Seychelles, and they are doing well. They are creating employment for the Seychellois and contributing to the economic growth.”

Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean, already is collaboration with Belgium in other areas including tourism.

In September 2014, the Seychelles Tourism Academy signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hotel School of Namur Province in Belgium to allow for more exchanges for its students and lecturers.

Seychelles and Belgium both have busy ports. Belgium has one of the biggest ports in Europe and Ambassador de Bilderling confirmed that she will be looking at possible cooperation in this area.

De Bilderling talked about the good collaborations which exist between the two countries.

“Our two countries do not have difficult relations. We share friendly working relations. We have collaborated in an excellent manner in areas such as piracy, the management of this threat, which has led to a decrease in piracy and related activities.”

De Bilderling was accredited to Seychelles in 2014 and was based in Nairobi, Kenya.
