(Seychelles News Agency) - The Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) has launched its first-ever mobile app competition to provide the youth with a platform to share and access information.
The chief executive of SNYC, Alvin Laurence, said that the competition has been organised to also enhance the line of communication between the youth.
A recent youth survey in Seychelles, a group of 115 islands in the western Indian Ocean, showed that young people are distancing themselves with information and opportunities made available especially for them.
“Since the youth of Seychelles represents the future and half of the population of Seychelles, SNYC has always provided activities and information that has helped in their development,” Laurence told SNA.
With technology deemed as an important tool in facilitating learning, the new app will enable the youth to interact in numerous ways, while they get access to important information such as educational seminar, and workshops conducted by the SNYC.
Those interested in the competition can download their registration form on www.snyc.info. Prizes include cash and overseas training. A final draft of the app must be submitted to the organisers before February 24.
Laurence said that IT connoisseurs who enter the competition need to consult the youth on what they want to see on the app in order to come up with the best end product.
The winning app's administration will be monitored to ensure that it is used safely and appropriately by the youth.
The competition has been organized in close collaboration with the University of Seychelles, based at Anse Royale, a district in the south of Mahe, the main island.
