Seychelles’ President attends southern Africa heads of state meeting in Namibia

(Seychelles News Agency) - The President of Seychelles, Danny Faure, is attending the 38th Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit of heads of states and government in Windhoek, Namibia.
The Summit which starts on Friday and ends on Saturday is taking place under the theme “Promoting Infrastructure Development and Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development”.
The 38th SADC summit is expected to discuss key regional issues which include, the status of member states contributions, an overview of the socio-economic situation and state of peace and security in the region.
At the heads of state meeting, Namibian President Hage Geingob will assume the SADC chair from his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa.
Attending the summit for the first time will be Comoros that was admitted as a SADC member state at the summit held in South Africa last year. The admission of Comoros brings the membership of SADC to 16.
The SADC Summit usually meets once a year around August or September in a member State at which a new chairperson and deputy are elected. The summit is responsible for the overall policy direction and control of functions of the SADC community.
