(Seychelles News Agency) - The President of Seychelles Danny Faure has sent a message of congratulation to Vladimir Putin on his re-election as President of Russia, State House said on Monday.

"Your victory attests to the trust and confidence that the people of the Russian federation have in your leadership and unwavering commitment to bring prosperity to your country,” Faure said in his message.

The head of state of Seychelles recalled the close relationship shared between Russia and Seychelles. He said the relationship between the two countries is guided by shared values, mutual respect with a focus of continued prosperity for the two peoples.

Seychelles and Russia have enjoyed diplomatic relations since the western Indian Ocean archipelago gained its independence in 1976.

Faure added that he looks forward during the Russian President's renewed mandate to working together towards further enhancing the friendly relations between Seychelles and Russia.

Bilateral cooperation between the two sides exists in the military field as well as in education. A number of Seychellois have studied and are still being sent to pursue further education opportunities in Russia.

Since December 2015, Seychellois nationals travel to Russia without a visa after the signing of a visa waiver agreement in September the same year.

Tourism is another area of cooperation. According to the March figures of the National Bureau of Statistics, around 3,400 visitors from Russia have come to Seychelles since the beginning of January.
