Seychelles police issues warning on circulation of counterfeit notes

(Seychelles News Agency) - Seychelles police is investigating reports of counterfeit notes in circulation, while advising merchants and the general public to be extra cautious when conducting financial transaction.

This pertains to the local currency, the Seychelles rupees.

“Recently the Police have been investigating reports of counterfeit 100 rupee notes and this week alone at least 3 cases of counterfeit 500 rupee notes in circulation have been reported on Praslin,” reads the police statement issued this afternoon.

Merchants, businessmen and the general public are being urged to carefully verify their money in terms of the quality of the paper as well as security features found on the notes to ensure that they do not fall prey to those carrying out this type of criminal activities.

“Anyone who is given counterfeit notes whilst conduction any financial transactions to reports the matter to its nearest Police station,” reads the statement.
