Canadian naval officer died of asphyxia

(Seychelles News Agency) - Canadian naval officer Lieutenant Andrew Webster died of asphyxia, according to post-mortem results released by the Seychelles police four days after his death. The cause of asphyxia is still being investigated.

The 32-year-old man was found motionless in a hotel room on January 2 at Glacis, in the northern part of Mahé island, the main island of the Indian Ocean archipelago.

Webster's body was flown to Canada early this morning.

Webster arrived in Port Victoria December 31 on board CHMCS Toronto which forms part of The Combined Maritime Forces- Task Force 150.

The multinational task force ensures maritime security and deters terrorist acts in the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman and the Red Sea. CTF-150 has included participation of naval forces of Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Republic of Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, and Turkey, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

CHMCS Toronto leaves Port Victoria today en route to Canada
