(Seychelles News Agency) - To share her passion about the environment and create awareness about the effects of climate change especially in Seychelles; that is the wish of 19-year-old Lisa Rose yet another young Seychellois lady trying to be crowned ‘Miss Seychelles…… Another World 2014.’
Originally from Praslin, the second most populated island of the Seychelles, Rose is currently living at Cascade, an eastern district of the main island, Mahé, as she pursues her studies for a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Seychelles, the archipelago’s only university established in 2009.
Though she is still studying, the ambitious Praslinoise, whose proudest moment so far is completing her Advanced Level studies, is set to achieve much more in life as she has a clear focus of her dream career.
Rose is hoping to be a Marketing Manager at the Seychelles Tourism Board in five years’ time – and eventually become the CEO of the organisation responsible for marketing the Seychelles as a tourism destination.
“Ever since I’ve been aware of its existence, it’s been my dream to work for the STB and hopefully, to someday manage it. Since tourism is a great passion of mine, I would love to work in an environment, where I know, I will make a difference as an individual,” the young lady proudly told SNA.
Rose hopes to be able to diversify the influx of visitors to the Indian Ocean islands, which are very much dependent on the tourism industry as well as create new ways of marketing Seychelles around the world.
At only 19 years old, Rose has already started to travel the world having been to neighbouring Reunion Island, South Africa, Italy and even Australia.
A keen volleyball player, her favourite colour is dark pink and while she enjoys horrors movies, she takes time to indulge in a good novel from time to time.
The young beauty contestant considers herself to be family orientated and like most Seychellois enjoys an authentic crab curry –prepared the creole way of course cooked with fresh coconut cream derived from locally grated coconut found in abundance all over the islands.
Despite the distance separating the Seychelles islands and the US, a lifelong dream of the young island girl is to meet Oprah Winfrey, as she feels the American TV icon has done so much to help young girls like herself.
As for the‘Miss Seychelles…… Another World 2014’ beauty pageant, although she is confident in her abilities and believes that she stands a chance of winning the title, Rose humbly admitted to SNA that there are times when the anxiety and nervousness kicks in.
Like all the other contestants Lisa Rose has come up with her own initiative in line with the fundamental aspect of the Miss World Beauty Pageant which is ‘Beauty with a Purpose’.
“As my beauty with a purpose project is about the damaging effect of coastal erosion and the rehabilitation of coastal areas, I will make it a must to inform everyone especially the youths, about the negative impacts erosion has had and still has on the islands’ coastal areas,” said Rose.
If crowned Miss Seychelles…Another World 2014, she hopes to represent the Seychelles nationally as well as on the international level.
Lisa Rose sees herself as the perfect candidate to hold a title as prestigious as Miss Seychelles …..Another World, because she describes herself as fun-loving, down to earth, and easy to relate to, which she says complements her ambitious and hardworking personality.
Will she be the one then to take the crown home? We will surely find out in four days’ time.
