(Seychelles News Agency) - The Seychelles’ Magistrates Court has remanded for 12 days a female Kenyan national arrested on the weekend with what is suspected to be cocaine, the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB) said on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old, who owns a hairdressing salon in Kenya, was arrested on Sunday in possession of approximately 255 grammes of suspected cocaine by the officers of the ANB, the Seychelles Police and Custom.

The Anti-Narcotics Bureau said the arrest took place at the Seychelles International airport at Pointe Larue after the arrival of the suspect on board an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

The Kenyan national will reappear in court on Friday, August 16.

This is the second case of a female Kenyan national arrested by local authorities in possession of cocaine. In April last year, Marietta Anyango, was arrested at the airport after landing on board an Ethiopian Airlines flight in possession of 210 grammes of cocaine.

Another Kenyan national, Rashid Mohamed Liwasa, is already serving life in prison in Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean. He was found guilty of the importation of  683 grammes and was sentenced under the Misuse of Drugs Act which was amended in August 2012.

Meanwhile a 22-year-old Brazilian national was charged by the Supreme Court last Thursday for the importation of a controlled drug. He was arrested with 1.9 kg of cocaine on July 18th. The Brazilian will reappear in court on August 14.
