Seychelles – a group of 115 islands in the western Indian Ocean – has been voted amongst the five best islands by readers of the magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

The island nation came fourth after the Maldives, Mauritius and the Galapagos Islands. Zanzibar came out fifth on the list.

The islands were chosen through a readers choice awards survey where readers of Condé Nast Traveler had to choose 30 best islands outside the United States for 2018.

Condé Nast Traveler is a luxury and lifestyle travel magazine published by Condé Nast. The magazine has won 25 National Magazine Awards.

Every year the magazine reveals lists which includes top rated cities, hotels, and airlines, amongst others.

“Our readers aren't alone in loving the remote beauty of this African nation,” the magazine said referring to Seychelles.

"Prince William and Kate Middleton, and Victoria and David Beckham, spent their honeymoons on the North Island, and some stretches are so on-a-desert-island bare that even parts of Castaway were filmed here, on Cousin Island," said traveler contributor Derek Blasberg.

“What's the ultimate draw? The Seychelles' natural wonders. A bright blue sky, crisp white beaches, and natural ecosystem that very nearly felt like a religious experience," added Blasberg.

Topping the list is the Maldives - a chain of 26 atolls and more than 1,000 islands in the Indian Ocean. Maldives is one of the most sought-after tropical destinations in the world.

Coming second is the neighboring island of Mauritius. Instagram and Pinterest have created renewed interest in this island in the Indian Ocean, thanks to its “underwater waterfall”—a visually stunning runoff of sand and silt best viewed from above.

The Galapagos Islands - part of the Republic of Ecuador - an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the equator in the Pacific Ocean  was voted third, whilst the Zanzibar a group of 50 tropical islands off the coast of Tanzania came out fifth.

In August last year, five hotels in Seychelles were featured among the recipients of the 2018 Condé Nast Traveler China Gold List awards.

The award ceremony was held in Beijing, China and the five hotels which made the list were the Six Senses Zil Pasyon - a resort on Félicité - the fifth-largest island of the archipelago, the exclusive eco-tourism resort of North Island, MAIA Resort and Four Seasons Resort on the main island of Mahe and Fregate Island Private.
